LINCOLNTON, N.C. – A Lincoln County man is facing child sexual assault charges in connection with an incident that occurred earlier this month.
On April 5, 2020 deputies were dispatched to a residence on Brookpath Trail in connection with a child sexual assault. The case was assigned to Detective Kelsey Harrington and on April 6, 2020 the juvenile female victim in the case appeared for an interview at the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center. During the interview the victim, who is known by the suspect, disclosed the sexual assault
Based on information from the interview and additional evidence gathered during the investigation, the suspect in the case was charged. Donald Ray Campbell Jr., 55, was charged with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor. He was arrested on April 27, 2020 and taken before a Lincoln County magistrate. Campbell was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond. He had a first appearance in Lincoln County District Court on April 28, 2020.
