Suspect Killed In Catawba County Incident

Catawba County Sheriff's Office
Press Release

Shortly before 10 AM Thursday (June 18th) the United States Marshals Service requested assistance from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office in apprehending Buddy Edward Weeks, 35, a former resident of Cleveland County, wanted on multiple charges.

The Marshals confirmed that Weeks was at 4732 Saddleview Court just off Anderson Mountain Road east of Maiden. The Marshals indicated Weeks was armed and had made statements that he intended to harm law enforcement if any attempts were made to apprehend him.

Catawba County deputies accompanied Marshals to the Saddleview Court residence, arriving around 10:10 AM. The Catawba County Crisis Intervention and De-escalation Team (CIDT) began attempts to communicate with Weeks. The Catawba County Special Tactics and Response (STAR) Team was also present.

Deputies applied for and received a Search Warrant authorizing the search of the Saddleview Court premises for Weeks. During the execution of this warrant deputies discovered Weeks was inside the crawl space of the residence. Weeks emerged from that crawl space a short time later armed with a handgun and a knife. Repeated attempts were made to encourage Weeks to disarm and surrender.

Gas munitions were deployed and Weeks emerged just before noon with a rifle. He was then shot by a United States Marshal. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No shots were fired by any Catawba County Sheriff's Office officer.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating this incident. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an Internal Affairs investigation.

Sheriff Don Brown commented: “Our sentiments are with the family of Buddy Weeks. Our team did everything possible to encourage Buddy to surrender. Buddy’s choices forced the Deputy Marshal to defend himself and all of the law enforcement officers present.”

When Larry Dellinger started the Lincoln Herald in 2012, he knew the world had changed.  He had spent over half a century in the newspaper business.  He knew that the future of news would be the internet. By 2018, 64% of US adults said they sometimes got news from a news website or app, a percentage equaled only by television. Only 41% said they still read newspapers in print.

The Lincoln Herald has been providing local news FREE online since 2012.  We continue to grow every year.  We post links to all our articles on Facebook & Twitter, and over 6,000 readers have signed up for our FREE daily email service and get an email every day with links to the articles we've posted since the previous day's email.
