Office Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - The Lincoln County Water Rescue Team spent the day Tuesday (July 21, 2020) battling the head waters of the Catawba River during a swift water training exercise.

The 17-member team, comprised of Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies, Denver Fire Department and East Lincoln Fire Department, went to the Bridgewater Power Plant on the Catawba River in Burke County to conduct swift water training involving rescue swimming, victim rescue and boat handling in class III rated water flow. Class III water flow includes high, rough and irregular water, rocks and narrow passages.

During the training exercises team members learn how to recognize hazards and put their skills to use during swift water rescue situations.

The team which is manned by veteran personnel has been deployed a number of times in emergency situations including a deployment to the North Carolina Outer Banks during Hurricane Dorian in September 2019.
