Wednesday Incident

Hickory Police Department
Press Release

A Wednesday afternoon incident in Hickory left one man dead and another injured.  The question police are trying to answer now is who shot who--and why?

At  3:40 PM, Hickory Police responded to 904 1st Street SW after receiving several 9-1-1 calls about multiple gunshots being fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers located numerous shell casings in the roadway of 1st Street SW.

At 3:44 pm, another 9-1-1 call was received,  the caller saying a man in a silver Nissan passenger vehicle with a gunshot wound was requesting help from a resident in the 200 block of 3rd Street SE.

Upon arrival there, officers found 30-year-old Donald Simpson with a single gunshot wound. Catawba County EMS responded and pronounced Simpson dead at the scene.

At 3:49 PM, the Hickory Police Department was contacted about a second subject with a gunshot wound seeking medical treatment at Frye Regional Medical Center. There, officers located 25-year-old Miquel Greylen Robinson also suffering from a single gunshot wound. Robinson was treated for his injuries and released from Frye Regional Medical Center.

It was determined that both Simpson and Robinson were shot in the 900 block of 1st Street SW.  No further information has been released pending further investigation.  Investigators are working to identify suspects and determine a motive for the shootings.

Anyone with information regarding this on-going investigation is encouraged to call the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551 or contact Investigator Carlos De Los Santos at 828-261-2621 or
