A mother and son from Lincolnton were killed in a Tuesday afternoon accident in Florence, South Carolina. 39-year-old Emily Huskins Wyatt and her 19-year-old son, Dylan, were pedestrians who became victims of a multi-vehicle crash.

The incident happened about 12:30 Tuesday afternoon (July 28th) on East Palmetto Street (US 76) in Florence.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said a westbound Chevy Tahoe changed lanes and hit a Honda Civic, forcing the Civic to cross the centerline, hit an embankment and overturn. Troopers say the Tahoe then struck a Nissan Maxima that was disabled in the median, struck and killed the Wyatts, and then hit a fourth vehicle.

In addition to killing Emily amd Dylan, the wreck also severely injured Daniel, Emily's husband. He underwent surgery Wednesday and was still hospitalized Thursday. Ten people were taken by five ambulances to two different Florence area hospitals as a result of the crash. It closed the highway for over two hours.

Emily had just begun a new job with Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region. A registered nurse, she had previously worked with Kindred at Home. Dylan was a 2019 graduate of West Lincoln High School.
