Gaston County Police released very few details about a shooting incident Friday morning (Sept. 25th) in High Shoals. They arrested Ronnie Keigh Estep of 300 River Street and charged him with Attempted First Degree Murder, Assault With a Deadly Weapon With Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, and Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Estep was convicted of Assault on a Female in 2018 and served a sentence for probation violation. He was arrested on an assault charge in July of this year, but that charge was later dismissed. On Friday at 11:18 AM, Gaston County Police responded to High Shoals in reference to a shooting. The victim was shot at a residence on River Street and sought help at the post office. Police and Gaston Emergency Medical Services responded to the call. The victim, whose name was not provided by police, was treated and released.
Estep, who is 40 years old, remained in the Gaston County Jail Saturday morning.
When the late Larry Dellinger started the Lincoln Herald in 2012, he knew the world had changed. He had spent over half a century in the newspaper business. He knew that the future of news reporting would be on the internet. By 2018, 64% of US adults said they sometimes got news from a news website or app, a percentage equaled only by television. Only 41% said they still read newspapers in print.
