Two presumably related shootings overnight Tuesday into Wednesday (April 6-7) ended with an 18-year-old dead and Shelby Police looking for answers.
The police were first called shortly after 10 PM Tuesday when what was described as a gathering on Frederick Street turned violent and three of the estimated 30 people there were wounded by gunshots. Two of them were young men from Shelby, the third is from Forest City. All were said to be in their late 20s to early 30s. One of them was arrested after being released from the hospital on unrelated outstanding warrants.
Police left the scene after the melee ended, but they were called back shortly before 2 AM Wednesday when gunfire was reported on Lenior Drive nearby. Arriving there, officers found the 18-year-old lying in the street. They performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Daquarrius Raquan Sanders was taken to Atrium Health – Cleveland where he died from his injury.
So far, no one has been arrested connected with the shooting of Sanders, but Shelby Police said their investigation has just begun.
