Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a residence Monday evening at 7:21 pm responding to a 9-1-1 call that a man had been stabbed at 6828 NC Highway 150 east. When officers arrived on the scene, the victim was located on the porch of the residence with a wound to the upper chest area.
Lincoln County EMS transported Cody David Souther, 18, of Bessemer City, to Atrium Health - Lincoln where he was pronounced deceased. Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspect who had fled the scene in a vehicle. Deputies J. Ray and M. Johnson located the suspect vehicle near the intersection of Loop Road and NC150 east and conducted a traffic stop.
Jacoby Alexander Brooks, 19, of 6828 NC Highway 150 east, Maiden, was taken into custody without incident. The Criminal Investigations Division responded to process the crime scene and continue the investigation. The suspect agreed to speak with investigators and confessed to stabbing the victim. Brooks was charged with second degree murder and taken before a Lincoln County magistrate who placed him in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
