The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office has filed sexual assault charges in two cases, one involving a Gastonia man and the other a man from Crouse.
In the case involving a Gastonia man, Edgar Jonathan Hernandez Sanchez, 37, of N. Poplar Street, Gastonia, was child with sexual assault of a child dating back to 2014.
With the assistance of the Huntersville Police Department, Sanchez was taken into custody without incident, and charged with statutory sex offense, two counts of indecent liberties with a child, one count each of sexual activity by a substitute parent, crime against nature, statutory rape of a child less than 15 years old, sex offense with a child under 15 years old and felony child abuse with a sexual act.
Sanchez was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond. He had a first appearance in Lincoln County District Court Thursday (July 14th).
In the other case, Matthew Windham Braswell, 35, of Old NC Highway 150, Crouse, was charged with an alleged sexual assault on Saturday May 29th, 2021 at a Memorial Day party at the residence of a friend.
On Thursday June 3rd, the female victim, who attended the party, told investigator Detective K. Harrington that she was sexually assaulted by the suspect that night and the incident was recorded on the home’s surveillance camera system.
Following the investigation Detective Harrington charged Braswell with one count of crime against nature and one count of second degree forcible sexual offense. Braswell was arrested without incident on Wednesday July 13th and jailed under a $100,000 secured bond. He also had a first appearance in Lincoln County District Court on Thursday.
