A young Stanley man, who was originally listed by police as a 'person of interest' in a shooting Saturday before last, has now been charged with first degree murder.
Cornelius Tyrone "T.J." Duff, Jr., 26, of Stanley, is accused of shooting and killing Stephon Markes Moore, 35, outside Moore's home on North Buckoak Street in Stanley the night of March 12th.
Duff was charged by police Monday evening (March 21st) and had a first appearance in court on Tuesday. He is being held in the Gaston County Jail without bond.
Duff's attorney says Moore also had a gun and that his client returned fire in the incident. Moore was taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center following the shooting and died there.
It was one of two homicides that weekend in Gaston County. In the other, two teenage boys were killed near Bessemer City. Four others have been charged in that robbery & murder incident.
