Traffic Stop Leads To Large Drug Bust

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – An early morning traffic stop has led to the seizure of drugs and cash.

On April 19, 2022 Deputy M. Ginther was on routine patrol in the Baker District when she observed a silver in color Range Rover near Joshua Court. She parked her patrol vehicle where she could see the vehicle travel to a residence known for drug activity in the 3400 block of NC Highway 27.

While observing the residence over a two-hour period Deputy Ginther saw a male in a white t-shirt make several trips carrying unknown items back and forth between the residence and the vehicle. The vehicle left the scene followed by the officer who caught up with the Range Rover near the Asbury Church Road intersection. The paper license plate on the vehicle was partially covered so Deputy Ginther conducted a traffic stop near the Buffalo Shoals Road intersection.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jose Luis Bosquez, 47, of Gastonia, NC. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Carroll Joshua Brown, 36, of Lincolnton. Bosquez was wanted on outstanding Gaston County warrants and was placed in custody by Baker District officers.

Lincolnton Police K-9 Officer Rushing arrived on the scene and the K-9 alerted to drugs being in the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle turned up seized items that included; $2,151 in cash (various denominations), 438g of Methamphetamine contained in six different baggies, 5.8g of marijuana contained in a Ziploc baggie, 35 Oxycodone pills contained in a tied off plastic baggie, 10 “Buprenorphine/Naloxone films”, 1 Stolen 9mm Glock with the rifle attachment, 1 black polymer80 frame, 1 black slide, 1 gray polymer80 frame, and a tan non-serialized firearm with a black frame and affixed laser. Also located and seized from the vehicle was a tan 33 round magazine containing 27 projectiles, a black 30 round magazine containing 22 projectiles, a black “Glock” 14 round magazine containing 14 projectiles, and 4 empty black magazines. Also seized was a box of 9mm “Hotshot” ammunition containing 38 projectiles, and various baggies in which contraband was kept.

An additional $2.784 were found when Mr. Bosquez was searched at the detention Center. He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and charged with: two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine, one count of possession of firearm by felon, maintain a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance, possession of stolen firearm, simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while license revoked. Mr. Bosquez was also served the order for arrest out of Gaston County for DWLR. Bosquez was placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $451,000 secured bond.

Carroll Joshua Brown was charged with two counts of trafficking in Methamphetamine, possession of firearm by felon, maintain a vehicle for controlled substance, possession of stolen firearm, simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, and simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Magistrate Wagoner secured Mr. Brown’s bond at $577,000.
