The Catawba County Sheriff's Office has charged a 25-year-old Conover man with first degree murder, attempted murder and first degree burglarly after an early Sunday morning incident.
At 2:47 AM Sunday (June 19th) deputies responded to a report of a breaking and entering in progress at 927 30th Street NE in Conover. When deputies arrived they discovered two people suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them was deceased. The other was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.
The victims were identified as Amy Raelynee Phillips, 46, and Keiyara Kelly Johnson, 22, both of whom lived at the address of the breakin. Phillips was killed; Johnson was in critical condition later Sunday.
The suspect in the case is Skykwon Rashard Gibbs of 1197 Opal Creek Drive in Conover. He is in the Catawba County Jail pending a Monday (June 20th) first appearance in court.
The Sheriff's Office said the incident appears to have stemmed from a domestic disturbance.
