Office Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - In week five of the 14-week program, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Citizen’s Police Academy participants learned about controlled substances and narcotics investigations.

In week five, Detective Dylan Houser giving the class an overview of controlled substances, how they are classified, the dangers related to each type, and how the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office investigates narcotics related crimes. Detective Houser and Detective G. Killian discussed the use of narcotics test kits used by officers during narcotics investigations and allowed participants hands-on practice using these kits. Participants also got the opportunity to see how criminals are able to store and conceal their narcotics, in what appear to be everyday household items, making detection by law enforcement even more difficult.

A Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigator discussed how they combat these crimes in our county. The investigator gave a breakdown of the narcotics division, discussed some investigative techniques including vehicle searches, and talked about how they partner with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) and HSI (Homeland Security Investigations).

Additionally, information was given on how to report drug-related crimes by calling the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Tip Line (704-736-8606) or Lincolnton/Lincoln County CrimeStoppers (704-736-8909).
