It all started when a deputy saw a man get out of his car and urinate on NC27-west.  When the deputy approached, the man took off.  Speeds increased.  He didn't stop for the blue light.  He didn't stop for the siren.  He increased his speed, at times up to 110 miles per hour.  He turned onto rural roads.  Eventually, he wrecked his vehicle and crashed into a Sheriff's Department vehicle.

27-year-old Timothy Ray Loftis of Dallas was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon (the car) on a Law Enforcement Officer or Government Official (a felony), Injury to Personal Property, Resisting/Delaying/or Obstructing a Public Officer, Speeding to Elude Arresst, Driving While License is Suspended or Revoked, and Hit & Run Involving Property Damage.  He was jailed under a $25,000 secured bond.

Loftis had a previous conviction for Driving While Impaired.  In 2008, when he lived in Bessemer City, he was convicted of Cruelty to Animals after he stomped an 8-week-old chihuahua puppy to death for urinating in the floor while he argued with his girlfriend.

His first court appearance on the current charges is scheduled for Monday, March 3rd.
