Hawthorne, California's Police Department's Community Affairs Unit hosted the first Coffee with a Cop event in March 2011.
By 2016, it had spread to all fifty states. The purpose of Coffee With a Cop...from the very first one to the ones that now occur across the country and in other countries, is to build better relationships as police officers and citizens learn about each other, form bonds and grow important community relationships to help weave the fabric of a better community.
The first Wednesday of October is designated as National Coffee with a Cop Day.
The McDonald's restaurant at the corner of East Main Street and Salem Church Road in Lincolnton hosted this year's Lincoln County Coffee With a Cop. Lincoln County Sheriff David Carpenter, Lincolnton Police Chief Rodney Jordan, members of both the Lincolnton Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff's Office as well as Highway Patrol Troopers who serve in Lincoln County were on hand to greet those who attended the event.
"While Coffee With a Cop is a national event and we're glad to be a part of it," said Chief Jordan, "we hope that citizens will be aware that they are welcome to talk with us at any time when we're not involved in a police action that requires our attention. We're glad to answer questions, provide information...do whatever we can to foster better relationships with the people in our service area. We need the public's help to maintain a peaceful community and to deter criminals. We'd rather prevent a problem than try to solve one. Good community relationships make that possible."
Occasionally people ask us, "where can I get a copy of your paper?" The answer is--you can't! The Lincoln Herald is an online news source--on our own website and we also provide links to our stories via Facebook and Twitter. The problem with printing a paper is that it limits the coverage to daily or weekly editions. Often, news happens after the latest edition has already been sent to the printer. As your online news source, the Lincoln Herald updates news every day--often several times in the day. Stories that appreared at the top of our home page in the morning have often been replaced by other stories later in the day--although you can still read them under the categories: NEWS, COMMUNITY, SPORTS, RELIGION, etc.
One great way to keep up with all the news we report is our daily email service. It's FREE! It's safe! It's simple. Sign up for this service and we'll send you an email every day with briefs of our articles posted since the previous day. If one interests you, just click on the brief in the email to read it. If not, just delete the email.
We won't sell or share your email address with anyone, so you need not worry about getting a lot of spam emails.
