The Catawba County Sheriff's Office has charged a second suspect in connection with the death of a Newton area man last week.

Twenty-three year old Dustin Allen Shook was arrested Tuesday and charged with Accessory After the Fact in the murder of 19-year-old Justin Tyler Smith. Another Maiden man, Jeffery Douglas Brittain, also 23, had been charged with the murder of Smith Sunday afternoon.

Smith was found shot to death while sitting in a recliner at his home at 3552 Ball Park Road, off Buffalo Shoals Road west of Highway 16. He was shot to death some time Thursday night according to Sheriff Coy Reid, who said a man who came to the home to cut the grass last Friday afternoon, found a bullet hole in a window and the victim dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Reid said no one else was in the home at the time Smith's body was found.

A Sunday news release said the incident is believed to be over a dispute about a girl.

Shook is accused of providing transportation from the crime scene for Brittain after he allegedly killed Smith.

Shook was jailed under a half million dollar bond pending a court appearance October 25th. Brittain is scheduled for court on October 23rd. He is being held without bond.
