Power Outage Closes Four Schools, County Offices
County Manager Kelly Atkins said that the power outage has forced multiple County offices to be closed for the day. The Courthouse will be closed--including the various offices located there. The Tax Office and Register of Deeds office will be closed. All offices located in the Citizens Center will be closed. The Senior Center at Gaston College will be closed. The Planning Department and Library will be closed. All of those locations are in the city of Lincolnton and are affected by the power outage which knocked out power to half the city.
Lincoln County Schools announced that due to the power outage, Lincolnton High, Battleground Primary, S. Ray Lowder Primary, and Kiser Intermediate will be closed for students today. This will be an optional workday for staff.
Dr. Lory Morrow's Community Forum at Lincolnton High School has also been rescheduled from this Monday evening until Monday, Nov. 6th.
The Lincoln Campus of Gaston College was also closed.
City Hall has a generator, so City Hall will be open Monday.
The Lincolnton Rotary Club called off its regular Monday meeting at 1st Baptist Church due to the outage.
The restoration of power will take considerable time according to Public Works Director Steve Peeler. It's not expected that electricity will be fully restored until late afternoon. "I'd say 3 o'clock would be a VERY optimistic estimate," Peeler told us. "It could be much later."
