The Catawba County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Claremont man and charged him with murder in the death of another man Saturday evening.

Forty-six year old Tony Allen Brittain II of 4054 Engelwood Street was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with killing 28-year-old Kevin Ray Hefner.

Officers were called to Hefner's residence at 4077 Old Catawba Road in Claremont at 6 PM Saturday. They found Hefner lying in the doorway to his home, dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. Witnesses at the scene told deputies there was a knock at the door, and when Hefner opened the door he was shot one time in the chest.

The witnesses said that after shooting Hefner, Brittain got in the passenger side of a car which then fled down Highway 10. Brittain was arrested at his residence at 6:40 AM Sunday (Nov. 5th).
