12/8/2018 8:19:00 AM Parades Will Roll, Storm Coming Saturday Night
Wayne Howard Staff Writer
The Cat Square Christmas Parade will roll down Cat Square Road at 1 PM this Saturday. It will be the second parade of the day--Cherryville's Christmas Parade happens at 10:30.
The winter storm won't get to our area until late Saturday evening. so it won't affect the parades. If you can't make it to Cat Square, you can watch the parade on the internet. Chris Ritchie will provide top notch video of the event on his lincolntonlive website.
There will be some others who will run video on Facebook using their phones, but Chris's professional equipment will be above and beyond anything you can see elseswhere--and if you go to the parade, you can see the video later on the same website.
The latest weather update has rain forecast off and on Saturday afternoon, switching over to a mixture about 9 - 10 PM Saturday night. After midnight, it will be all snow until mid-afternoon on Sunday. We're expecting 3 - 4 inches of snow overnight and an additional 7 inches on Sunday. As much as a quarter inch of ice could accumulate Sunday night, making travel early Monday extremely hazardous. The total snowfall for Lincolnton and points northward will be 8 - 12 inches, a little less southward.
While no announcements have been made so far, we wouldn't be surprised to see City & County offices open late Monday--if at all. We also don't believe (although no announcements have yet been made) that schools will likely be closed Monday since roads will be hazardous, especially Monday morning.
We're likely to have a plethora of church service cancellations on Sunday. We'll update the cancellations and postponements as we receive them.
So far (as of Saturday morning) we have the following cancellations:
Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville has changed the date for its live Nativity Scene from this Sunday evening to Sunday Dec. 23rd at 5:30 PM.
Marvin United Methodist Church, 2731 Startown Road, has cancelled the 2nd Saturday breakfast for this Saturday. They will have another next month on January 12th.
Playwright Preston Lane, who composed the musical "Beautiful Star" had been scheduled to be at the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library in Hickory Saturday. That appearance has been cancelled.
