Zero Tolerance Litter Campaign Dec. 31 - Jan. 7

Lincoln County Sheriff's
Office Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol will be conducting a Zero Tolerance Litter Campaign December 31, 2018 thru January 7, 2019. The goal of this Campaign is to educate the community and issue citations if needed for any littering offense within Lincoln County.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office along with Highway Patrol will be conducting check points near the Convenience Sites throughout the county and speaking with citizens about unsecure loads and other littering offenses. During this campaign we will also be conducting traffic stops for any littering violations that are witnessed. This campaign is a collaborated effort with Lincoln County Solid Waste.

Under North Carolina's anti-littering law, individuals may be fined and face community service for intentionally and unintentionally littering.

Intentional littering in the amount of 15 pounds or less is a Class 3 misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $250 to $1,000 and up to 24 hours of community service.

Unintentional littering in the amount of 15 pounds or less is an infraction punishable by a fine of up to $100 and up to 12 hours of community service.
