12/19/2018 7:26:00 AM Gaston County Students Will Make Up Snow Days Other area counties won't--unless we have more snow

On Thursday Jan. 17th and Friday Jan. 18th, Gaston County Schools will make up two full days missed due to the snowy weather last week. The Gaston County School Board approved the plan during its meeting Monday.
Lincoln County Schools and Catawba County Schools have both announced that they won't be making up those days. The Lincoln County Board of Education approved at its December 13th meeting waiving the making up of the two days missed because of the snow. The Board was told that the 2018-2019 school calendar has sufficient hours to meet the required 1,025 hours for the school year. In the event additional school days are missed this school year, the following Saturdays have been designated as potential make-up days:
Even if more snow occurs causing more missed days, students won't have to go a full day on those Saturdays. Instead, the classes will be from 8 AM until 12 noon.
Catawba County Schools had earlier announced they wouldn't be making up the missed days, but also noted that if we have more snow cancellations, that may necessitate making up any days that are missed later this winter.
