McCall Looks Ahead To 2019
County commissioner extols animal services

LINCOLNTON, N.C.––With 2018 winding down, Lincoln County Commissioner Anita McCall is looking back and ahead.

Wednesday, McCall shared her thoughts with The Herald, citing the year just past and its counterpart coming up.

“The number-one achievement for the County was Lincoln County Animal Services achieving no-kill status in June,” she said.

Looking to 2019, McCall talked about water-and-sewer concerns.

“I wish to see Lincoln County continue to provide new water and sewer to underserved areas, such as West Lincoln,” she said.

And new businesses for our local area remain very much on McCall’s mind.

“The Lincoln County Economic Development Association has done a phenomenal job at bringing businesses to Lincoln County,” she said. “I am questioned at state and national events about how we have accomplished this so that they, too, can follow our model. I want our economic development to continue so we may have higher-paying positions for our residents and progress as a county. Our close proximity to Charlotte gives us an advantage we should capitalize on as best as we can to prosper our county.

“As Lincoln County continues to grow, property taxes have stayed revenue-neutral for many years,” she continued. “Now, with more residents, more services are needed, such as fire, EMS, the sheriff’s department and many more. It is very difficult to not raise taxes. Fortunately, we are working hard to reduce debt services and raise our credit rating to the highest level so that when we borrow money, we will get the very best rates. With the upcoming revaluation, the County will obtain new revenue. My hopes are that with this, coupled with the new tap fees for water and sewer, we can stay revenue-neutral and yet provide the additional needed services.”
