“We will know how many singers we will have and a bit more about how things will present themselves,” she added.
The competition––the 17th such annually––is free to attend and open to the public. It will be held in uptown Lincolnton’s Lincoln Cultural Center, March 16 and 17, respectively for the semi-finals and finals, with the latter scheduled for that Sunday at 3 p.m., with a reception to follow, as Heafner informed.
“The semi-finals cannot have a time until we know exactly how many we have who make the cut,” she explained. “Twice in 16 years, the judges have requested that we have seven singers in the finals, which we did do. I can already tell you that we have some really wonderful voices and interesting participants.”
Among them, said Heafner, are competitors from as far abroad as Nigeria, Swaziland and elsewhere.
