Retired Lincoln County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Dies At 65

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – On February 28, 2019 retired Lincoln County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Larry Wade Stanley, Sr., 65, of Guy Heavner Road, Lincolnton, NC passed away.
Stanley began his career with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office as a part-time deputy on June 30, 1978. He was promoted to fulltime on April 20, 1979. Officer Stanley was promoted to Sergeant in January 1982 then Lieutenant on June 1, 1984.
Stanley served as a Lieutenant for 25 years before being promoted to Chief Deputy on October 9, 2009. He retired on November 30, 2010.
He was honored with the VFW Officer of the Year Award in 1986 and again in 2006. Stanley received service ribbons for Officer of the Year, Community Service, and 30-year Service Pin. He also received the Advanced Law Enforcement Certification, Community Policing Award, and Expert Firearms.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home in Cherryville. The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel in Cherryville with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ann Baxter Stanley of the home; two sons, Steven Baxter and wife Johnna; Larry Stanley II; three grandchildren, Seth Baxter, Tyler Stanley and Jenna Baxter; a brother Jim Baxter (Denise) and family; a sister, Tammy Stanley; mother-in-law, Mabel Baxter; a brother-in-law, Tommy Baxter; niece, Malinda Smith and family; children of his late nephew Tommy Baxter, III; a sister-in-law, Kathy Baxter; niece, Melissa Avery and family; aunt Dean Medford; also surviving are a number of cousins.
