A Long Island, New York, man suffered serious injuries after a 70-foot fall from a backside trail at Crowders Mountain State Park just before 8 o'clock Friday morning.
Navas Delcid was posing for a photo by a friend, Hector Calix, and apparently lost his balance and fell.
Calix, also from Long Island, said he has a sister who lives in Cherryville and they were in the area to visit her.
Thirteen crew members from the Gastonia Fire Department and EMS personnel responded to the call and carried Delcid 100 feet up from the base of an area known as the “climbing wall." He was then carried another 400 yards down the mountain and taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center where he was reported in stable condition later in the day.
