LINCOLNTON, N.C.––When you hear her sing, you may just want to stand up and cheer.
She’s Lenoir-Rhyne University cheerleader Bailey Beam. And this talented Lincolnton girl will be among the singers competing in this weekend’s annual Heafner-Williams Vocal Competition.
According to event organizer and renowned opera star Carolyn Heafner of Lincolnton, Beam is a remarkable hometown girl who is a senior vocal performance and sacred music double-major at LRU in Hickory. Beam is a veteran of the Lenoir-Rhyne Youth Choir, in which she performed during her years in middle and high school.
She is also a member of the Mars Hill Honors Chorus and the North Carolina Honors Chorus. She is known for her performances in such musicals as Godspell and her work in the a cappella and chapel choirs and the LRU College Singers.
Following her graduation in May, Beam plans to pursue a master’s degree in teaching at Lenoir-Rhyne.
The Heafner-Williams Vocal Competition is open to singers 18-35, who reside in or are enrolled in schools in the Carolinas and Virginia. The event will be held this weekend, March 16 at 11 a.m. (the semi-finals) and March 17 at 3 p.m. (the finals, with a reception to follow) at the Lincoln Cultural Center.
The event is free and open to the public.
