A Sunday evening (March 17th) accident left a large portion of the west side of Lincolnton in the dark for most of Sunday night. The accident happened between 7 and 8 PM when a car slammed into a utility pole at the intersection of Childs and South Grove streets and City electric crews weren't able to restore power until after 3 AM Monday morning.
The power outage extended eastward to the Courtsquare and northward to the city limits on Reepsville Road. Assistant City Manager Richie Haynes said the outage probably affected about 10% of the city's electric customers.
The power outage wasn't the only problem. A wider area of the city was without cable tv or telephone service due to the downed lines.
