The property has been valued at just over a million dollars, and that's the minimum bid Lincoln County will accept for the old Health Department property at the intersection of Wilma Sigmon Road at N. Generals Blvd.
The bids will be accepted for 45 days, after which County Commissioners can decide to accept the highest bid or reject it.
Commissioners decided at their March 18th meeting to use the bid process but rejected using an upset bid manner that would have offered bidders a chance to offer a higher bid than the largest one received in the regular time period. They also rejected holding an auction for the property.
The Health Department is, of course, now located in the old hospital building on Gamble Drive. It will soon be joined by another building on that property housing the Communications Center.
Commissioners have also said they'll build a new courthouse at the Gamble Drive location--but that project is still a few years away.
Meanwhile, Lincoln County Administrative Offices including the County Manager's office, Purchasing Office, Human Resource and Finance Office all moved this past week to the new Administrative Building, the former Lincoln County Schools Administration Building on N. Generals Blvd.
County Commissioners' March 18th meeting was the last in their former meeting room on the third floor of the James W. Warren Citizens Center. Commissioners will hold a budget workshop at 10 AM Friday at the Generals Blvd. location and their April 1st meeting will be there.
Other County offices will soon be moving. The Planning & Inspections offices will move to the third floor of the Citizens Center from their current location at the intersection of N. Academy and Pine streets. The Elections Office will move this summer to the former R.B. Cronland Garden Center on Salem Church Road. The Senior Center will be moving to Town & Country Shopping Center from its location on S. Academy St. at the Lincoln Campus of Gaston College.
The County will be turning over the building at the southeast corner of the Courtsquare at E. Water St. to the City. When renovated, it will house City offices including the Planning Department.
