Methamphetamine & Marijuana Drug Seizure In Newton

NEWTON, N.C. - On Monday, April 1, 2019 the Catawba County Narcotics Unit, assisted by the Hickory and Newton Police Departments conducted a search warrant upon 3025 Hielman Street, Newton, NC.
Investigators discovered approximately 10 pounds of marijuana, approximately 11 ounces of methamphetamine and a trafficking amount of opioids.
Cheng Yang, 33, of 3025 Hielman Street, Newton, NC. was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Marijuana and Trafficking in Methamphetamine.
Vang received a $100,000 bond. He posted his bond on April 2, 2019 and is expected to have his first appearance this morning.
Sheriff Don Brown commented, “We are going to continue to focus our efforts on prosecuting those who bring drugs into our county, and ruin the lives of so many. Thank you to the Newton and Hickory Police Departments for your support and assistance, as we all work together as a team to make our communities a safer place to live.”
Further charges and/or indictments are expected.
