LINCOLNTON, N.C. – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office recently switched to the 800 MHz Viper Radio System. The system is state owned and is a state wide system.
Officials say the change is long overdue and is already making a difference for emergency services personnel in Lincoln County. For the first time in Lincoln County all first responders including law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services can communicate with each other with the Viper System. In years past, on large scenes or special events such as the Apple Festival it has been critical to establish unified communications for all agencies. It improves reliability, effectiveness and ease of use while improving the ability to communicate with other agencies.
The Viper System allows each agency to communicate directly with each other rather than place a high traffic demand on the Lincoln County Communications Center during special events. Lincoln County has invested time and money in the new radio system which not only allows better communications within our county but with surrounding counties and state agencies.
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies received training on the operation of the new radios and are in the process of getting use to the change over to the new system. We have found that this new system has a better coverage area than our old system.
