Three People Charged With Breaking, Entering & Larceny

LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies have charged three people in connection with a break-in and larceny from a storage building on Elm Grove Road.

Deputies were dispatched to the facility in 400 block of Elm Grove Road around 9 p.m. on April 9, 2019 after the victim called the Lincoln County Communications Center to report the incident. Dale Anthony Turnmire told officers the last time the unit was known secure was on April 6, 2019. The owner of the storage units was contacted who produced surveillance camera footage of three people in a white pickup truck entering and exiting the victim’s storage unit.

The three suspects were seen placing items from the victim’s storage unit into another storage unit and the pickup truck. Deputy M. Farra learned the storage unit where the stolen items were taken was being rented by Darrell Eugene Shelton. He was also listed as owner of a white pickup truck. As the deputy was leaving he observed the pickup truck drive by the facility and conducted a traffic stop.

Deputy Farra spoke with the driver, Darrell Eugene Shelton, who admitted to taking the items from the victim’s storage unit. The items had a total value of $2,195 with some being placed in the storage unit and others in the pickup truck. The passengers in the vehicle, Charles Ollie Stiles and Marlowe Cherylette Anderson, also admitted to the theft. A number of the stolen items were returned to the owner.

Darrell Eugene Shelton, 50, of Mount Holly, N.C., Charles Ollie Stiles, 43, of Panama City, Florida, and Marlowe Cherylette Anderson, 51, of West Childs Street, Lincolnton, N.C. were charged with one felony count each of breaking and entering a building, larceny after breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of stolen goods. In addition, Anderson was charged with possession of a controlled substance Schedule I.

Bond for Shelton was set at $30,000 secured while bond for Stiles is $40,000 secured. Anderson was given a $25,000 secured bond.
