Gaston County Police
Press Release

Gaston County Police are looking for a man in connection with the death of a Stanley woman last Sunday (May 5th). Delia “Joyce” Aldridge Rick’s car crashed into the Seven Oaks Boat Landing on South New Hope Road just after 1 AM Sunday. People in the area reported hearing a loud noise and seeing the vehicle going completely under water.

The Belmont Police Department responded to South New Hope Road at the Seven Oaks Bridge at approximately 1:15 AM and the subsequent investigation determined that the 61-year-old woman had been murdered.

A joint investigation by the Belmont Police Department and the Gaston County Police Department led to a First Degree Murder charge filed for the arrest of James Michael Rick, 48. Police say Rick is believed to be in the North Myrtle or Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina. He was last seen driving a black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck with NC License Plate number: HS9845.

Gaston County Police are also looking for a second person of interest in this case, Melinda Kay Robinson, 51, an acquaintance of both Ricks.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of James Michael Rick or Melinda Kay Robinson is asked to contact Gaston County Police at 704-866-3320 or Crimestoppers at 704-861-8000.
