LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s detectives have charged the father of a child in connection with an accidental shooting incident involving a one-year-old child and a two-year-old child.

After consulting with the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, Detective Richard Calhoun charged Dylan Sean Moose, 23, of Lightview Lane, Lincolnton, NC with storing a firearm in a manner accessible to a minor which is a Class 1 misdemeanor. He was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Lightview Lane, Lincolnton, NC around 11:50 a.m. on May 12, 2019 after the Lincoln County Communications Center received a report about a one-year-old child being shot.

Detectives say the child’s father was outside the residence this morning smoking a cigarette and heard a loud pop. He rushed back inside the residence where he and his wife found the two children who were playing in the parent’s bedroom. The one-year-old child suffered a wound from a bullet that grazed the child’s head. It’s believed the bullet did not penetrate the skull.

While playing in the room the children apparently retrieved a .380 caliber handgun from a nightstand and a shot was fired. The one-year-old child was transported to Atrium Heath Care in Charlotte by Lincoln County EMS. The child is doing well and is expected to be released from the hospital soon.

Gun safety locks are available at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at no charge.
