Bridge Replacements Begin Monday

The bridge on Southfork Road near Laboratory Mill is being replaced  under a $8.5 million contract awarded in 2017 to replace seven bridges in Lincoln and Cleveland counties. Contractor R.E. Burns & Sons of Statesville will close South Fork Road at 8 AM Monday (June 24th) and according to the contract, it may be closed until July of next year.

While the bridge is under construction drivers can follow a posted detour from Laboratory Road to Southside Church Road, returning to Southfork Road or in the other direction, turning left onton Southside Church Road, it will take them to Laboratory Road.

Other bridges in Lincoln County to be replaced under the contract include the  Laboratory Road bridge over Indian Creek, Reepsville Road over Tanyard Creek, Howards Creek Mill/Westwind over Howard’s Creek, and Alf Hoover Road over Howards Creek.

In Cleveland County, bridges named in the contract include: Oak Grove Road over Muddy Fork Creek and Bethlehem Road over Beason Creek.

All of the new bridges are scheduled to be completed by July 27, 2020.
