Lincoln County Schools got the early start this year--with students returning from summer vacation on Monday (Aug. 12th).  Lincoln Charter School will open for students this Wednesday (Aug. 14th) with a half day.  Denver Christian Academy will also open Wednesday.

Mike Lungarini is the new principal for 2019-2020 at Lincoln Charter School in Denver.  We talked with him last week about his new job (video at right).

Lincoln Charter is already the largest charter school in North Carolina, and while they're holding the limit on the number of students at their high school in Denver, they're expanding at the Lincolnton campus.

The new Westlake Preparatory Academy is also opening this Monday in its temporary home at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.  A public hearing on a proposed zoning change for a permanent site is scheduled for September 9th.  Westlake Prep will begin with only students in grades K-6, expanding up to K-8 in its third year.

Most area schools including Catawba, Gaston and Cleveland County Schools, won't open for students until August 26th.
