Lincoln County Sheriff's Office Press Release
LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Two Crouse residents are facing charges in connection with taking money from someone under the pretense of purchasing an HVAC system to be installed in a residence.
On April 6, 2020 deputies were dispatched to the reporting party who told them that $5,280 had been paid to a couple to purchase and install a new HVAC system in their father’s residence on Mosteller Lane, Lincolnton, NC. Larry Edward Lusk, 46, and Amy Louise McCaslin,43, both of Shoal Road in Crouse, NC, agreed to perform the work.
The case was assigned to Detective J. Talbot who determined the check for $5,280 had been written to McCaslin because Lusk did not have an identification to cash the check. The check was cashed the same day it was written to the couple. The victims told officers that the suspects continued to make excuses on why the purchase had not been made.
Detective Talbot secured warrants charging Lusk with obtaining property by false pretenses and McCaslin with aiding and abetting obtaining property by false pretenses. Both suspects were arrested at their Shoal Road residence on April 28, 2020. Lusk was jailed under a $8,000 secured bond while bond for McCaslin was set at $4,000 secured.
