Lincoln County's unemployment rate increased by one percent in July compared to June but it was still lower than the rate in surrounding counties. Statewide, the unemployment rate increased in 99 of the state's 100 counties.
Lincoln County's unemployment rate in July was 7.6%. Catawba County had a rate of 9.3%, Cleveland County was 9.1% and Gaston County's rate was 9.6%. Statewide, the unemployment rate increased by 1.2% from June to 8.9% in July.
While the pandemic and resulting shutdowns of some businesses and industries has driven the unemployment and cut back on the number of jobs available, there are still companies who are hiring. The Lincoln Economic Development Association (LEDA), the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, and NC Works (Job Service office) will be participating in a virtual Job Fair September 10th & 11th. Several companies have already announced they'll be participating and actively seeking new employees, among them Lakeside HVAC, which needs technicians, and Cataler, looking for operators and technicians. We hope to provide additional information about the jobs available, qualifications, contact information, etc. in an article next week.
