Violence Keeps Officers Busy

Gastonia Police arrested a 29-year-old man in the stabbing death of his 67-year-old grandfather. Christopher Michael Phillips, of 648 Log Cabin Drive, is charged with first degree murder in the death of his grandfather, Darrell Boyce Phillips, of the same address. The stabbing followed an argument inside the residence and Darrell Phillips died at the scene.

In Catawba County, the Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that happened Tuesday. When deputies arrived a a residence on 28th Street NE off Kool Park Road, they learned that a 39-year-old man had suffered a gunshot to his chest. The person was located by deputies at the intersection of Kool Park Rd. and 29th St. NE adjacent to a vehicle which had been used to transport him in hopes of seeking medical attention. He was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division interviewed several persons involved in the incident. An 18-year-old male was also injured. He was treated and released from Catawba Valley Medical Center.

As of Thursday no charges had been filed as the investigation continues.
