LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a vehicle stolen from Gastonia while responding to a call around 4:30 a.m. today (September 29, 2020).
Deputies had been dispatched to a breaking into a motor vehicle call on Shiloh Run Lane, Lincolnton, when they encountered the stolen vehicle, a silver in color Mazda CX5, on Hickory Nut Lane. The victim in the original call told officers he was alerted by his security camera that someone was walking around his vehicles with the doors open. When he went to confront the man he fled the scene on foot. Nothing was stolen from the victim’s vehicles.
A neighbor, who was leaving for work, gave officers a description of a male and female who were standing with the stolen vehicle. They were located a short time later coming out of a wooded area and the male ran from officers. He was apprehended following a brief foot chase. The female was not charged.
Deputies charged Calvin Alexander Fair, 18, of Gastonia, NC with one felony count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, and one misdemeanor count each of attempted breaking and entering a motor vehicle and resist, delay and obstruct a public officer. He was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
