School Traffic Volume Increases

Lincoln County Sheriff's
Office Press Release

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Students attending elementary schools in Lincoln County are now back to a full-time, 5-days a week schedule. With this change comes an increase in overall school traffic in the mornings and afternoons.

For various reasons, there are fewer students riding the bus this year which also adds to the total number of cars that will be waiting in school car-rider lines. Additionally, state guidelines require that all students must have their temperatures checked before getting out of their vehicle each morning.

Due to the changes that are taking place, school traffic all across Lincoln County will be much more congested than usual. Therefore, please be patient and allow for extra time in the mornings and afternoons when traveling in and around school zones.

Also, be alert and use caution when approaching a stopped school bus. Do not pass a school bus that has its red flashing lights activated and stop-arm extended. Refrain from distracted driving and use extra caution anytime children are in the area, as a child’s movements are often unpredictable.

Let’s all be patient and work together to ensure the safety of the children of Lincoln County. Our children deserve it.
