Just when we believed we had dodged the winter weather bullet and were ready to celebrate the first sunny weekend in awhile, the National Weather Service, one might say, threw more than rain on our Mardi Gras parade.
The sunny weekend is still in the forecast...BUT, NOAA issued a Winter Storm Watch for Wednesday night and Thursday, then updated that Wednesday morning to a Winter Storm Warning for Catawba County and a Winter Weather Advisory for everyone else. However, it appears now that we will have some bad weather including sleet for parts of Lincoln County, the upper half of Cleveland, and the northern part of Gaston, especially the northwestern part near Cherryville.
We already expected rain--but now they tell us that we may have icing and possibly some mixed sleet and snow with the rain. We actually expect some accumulation of sleet will be possible north of Lincolnton, in Catawba and upper Cleveland, and there may be some icy spots in many locations.
