The current figures from the COVID-19 pandemic contain some good news and some bad news. In Lincoln County, the number of active cases reported by the Health Dept. Friday was 112, down from 208 on Tuesday. The bad news is that eight more people had died from the virus, bringing that total to 76.
Catawba County has now recorded 273 deaths, Gaston County 386--but in both counties, the number of people hospitalized is declining; as of Friday, it was 55 in Catawba County, only 41 in Gaston.
Statewide, the number hospitalized also continues to decline--1,780 on Friday. Just weeks ago, it was near four thousand.
COVID-19 vaccinations continue. We've already reported in multiple articles the various procedures for counties in our area for scheduling yours. Catawba County Public Health issued an update Friday: Due to the weather on Thursday, some individuals who had appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations at the Hickory Metro Convention Center were not able to make it to their appointments. Those people may call Catawba County Public Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Scheduling Line (828-695-6650) beginning Monday (Feb. 22nd) to reschedule. Scheduling staff are available to answer calls Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
