Allen Named Superintendent
Lincoln Herald editorial comment:
Allen's credentials aside, when he stepped into the role of Interim Superintendent last Fall, it was at perhaps the most difficult time for schools since the desegregation era.  The period was marked by disagreements over whether or not to return to in-person instruction. the difficulty of handling both in-person and virtual education.  The schools were forced to sail through uncharted territory, and with Allen at the helm, have handled the difficulties better than most.  Returning to mostly in-person classes, Lincoln County Schools cut a 30% failure rate during the first semester to only 3% since. [A report on that will be given to the School Board at their committee meetings next week.]  The Board of Education holds its annual joint session to discuss the schools' budget with County Commissioners this Thursday.  Having Dr. Allen in place will strengthen their position.

The Lincoln County Board of Education held a special called meeting Monday evening (Feb. 22nd) with just one personnel item on its agenda.  Following that session, the Board announced that it had selected Dr. Aaron D. Allen as its next Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Allen, who has already been doing the job as Interim Superintendent, will officially start in the new position immediately.

Dr. Allen was previously the Associate Superintendent of Schools until Dr. Lory Morrow’s retirement in October 2020.  Dr. Allen has served in other roles, including Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, principal of West Lincoln Middle School, and Assistant Principal at North Lincoln High School.   Dr. Allen began his career in education in 1998, serving as a teacher at Kings Mountain High School and later served as principal at Kings Mountain Middle and Burns High School.  In 2013, Dr. Allen was named Cleveland County Principal of the Year.

“We are excited to announce Dr. Aaron Allen as our new Superintendent.” said Mark Mullen, Chair of the School Board.  “Dr. Allen’s knowledge, exemplary performance and desire for growth and excellence for our schools made him the standout candidate in this search.  We are fortunate to have his service at a time when the demands for running the business of Lincoln County Schools is equally important to understanding the daily changing classroom environment.  I am confident Dr. Allen is the right person to navigate our county through today’s turbulence and success going forward.”

Dr. Allen received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Appalachian State University and a Master’s Degree in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University.  He also received a Master’s of Education in Physical Education and Sports Medicine from Temple University and his Bachelor’s of Art from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.   Dr. Allen and wife Tami have three children who attend West Lincoln Middle and Union Elementary Schools.

"I am excited and honored to be able to serve Lincoln County in this way.  I appreciate the trust and confidence that the Board of Education has in me to do the job.  I love the people, communities, school staff, and students in Lincoln County Schools and I can’t wait to be their biggest supporter and cheerleader.  I look forward to expanding our partnerships and working together with business, government, and community leaders to broaden our student opportunities,”  stated Dr. Allen.  “I would like to thank my wife and children for their support over my career in education.  I have my parents and sisters to thank for the incredible example they gave me each day.  I also would like to extend a thank you to those leaders that have come before me and helped shape me as a leader.  I promise that I will work hard for every staff member and student in our system just as if they were part of my family."

A reception to congratulate Dr. Allen is tentatively planned for March 9 at 5:00pm at the central office, 201 Jeb Seagle Drive  Lincolnton.  More information will be forthcoming about the reception.
