Shooting Leaves One Injured, One Charged With Attempted Murder

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Lincoln County Sheriff's detectives have charged one man with attempted murder in connection with a shooting incident that occurred over the Memorial Day weekend.

Around 9:15 p.m. on May 30, 2022 Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a shooting that occurred on Sun Valley Trail, Lincolnton, NC. Deputies arrived to find the victim with a single gunshot wound to the lower left leg.

Detectives D. Hendrix and G. Killian were dispatched to the scene to continue the investigation into the shooting. During the investigation detectives discovered that the shooting was the result of a planned robbery. The victim was brought to the Sun Valley Trail location and was immediately confronted by four or five individuals, two of which were armed with handguns.

The victim was physically assaulted, robbed and shot in the lower left leg before the group left the scene. He was treated on the scene by Lincoln County Sheriff's deputies and Lincoln County EMS then transported to an area hospital where he underwent surgery. The victim is expected to recover from the incident.

As the investigation continued by the end of the day on May 31, 2022 detectives identified the shooter as Aquil Giovonni Jackson, 35, of Sentry Lane, Lincolnton, NC. He was taken into custody and charged with attempted first degree murder. He is in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond.

Detectives have multiple suspects identified in the case and more charges are expected. Anyone who has information on the case can contact Detective D.
