Mail-in Ballots Pouring In
Those mail-in absentee ballots are pouring in at area Elections offices.  Lincoln County had 6981 requested as of Monday (Oct. 5th).  Of the ones they had sent out, 2559 had already been returned.  Other area counties are experiencing similar larger than normal absentee voting.

Dennis Roger Vandyke was charged with one felony count each of forgery of an instrument, possession of five or more counterfeit instruments, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm by a felon.  He was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine.

Union County EMS Gives Gaston College Ambulance
Gaston College’s EMS program is benefiting from the donation of an ambulance from Union County EMS. The Monroe-based agency is affiliated with Atrium Health. The retired vehicle will be used to train students in the emergency medical science program. The ambulance arrived Thursday.

The City of Lincolnton began this week cutting off utility services--electricity and water--to customers who hadn't paid their bills.  The moratorium on utility cutoffs that was part of Gov. In the midst of the pandemic-caused downturn in the economy, the Catawba County Economic Development Commission had some good news to report Thursday.  A Wisconsin company, MaxPax, LLC announced that it will invest $9.55 million and create 300 jobs in Catawba County.

The number of active cases of the coronavirus in both Lincoln and Gaston counties is the lowest it has been in well over a month.  Lincoln County reported only 77 active cases Friday (Aug. 28th) the lowest figure since late June.  Gaston County had 1,150 active cases.
