The snow and sleet have ended, but not all roads have yet been cleared.  Schools will be closed Tuesday.  The MLK Day Walk & Program that had been planned for downtown Lincolnton was canceled. There will still be some hazardous driving conditions in some areas Tuesday morning, so plan accordingly.

The snow, sleet and freezing rain continue and road conditions are hazardous.  The good news is that most people have done what they were advised to do and stayed home.  Sheriff Bill Beam confirmed that Lincoln County has had no major incidents, although some less serious accidents have occurred.

Monday is MLK Day, a national holiday.  Govt. offices (federal, state, county, city) will be closed.  Schools will be closed.  Libraries will be closed.  Because of the winter storm, there will also be some weather-related closures including Lincoln County solid waste convenience sites closed Sunday.

On Thursday January 6th Gaston County had its first cases involving a racoon in Gastonia.  That same day, the Cleveland County Health Department was notified of a skunk that tested positive for rabies in Kings Mountain.

On Friday, January 7, 2022 Maiden Police officers, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, arrested Gavin Zachary Matthews, age 20, of Maiden on five felony charges of Third-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.

Lincoln County Emergency Management issued a news release Friday about coming road closures by CSX for rail replacement and repair in eastern Lincoln County.  Ron Rombs, Emergency Services Director told us Saturday that access to all homes by law enforcement, ambulances and fire department personnel has been secured during the work.

Saine Details How State Budget Will Benefit Lincoln County
For the first time in three years, North Carolina has a state budget.  The new budget will provide pay raises for teachers among other state employees.  Those raises will be retroactive to July 1st, but it will likely be January before educators get the money.  Rep. Jason Saine was all smiles after Gov. Roy Cooper signed the budget bill.
