Girls Golf Championships Update
Newton-Conover won the NCHSAA 1A/2A girls golf championship Tuesday.  West Lincoln, winners in the Spring, came in 5th in the event.  North Lincoln finished 10th at the 3A tournament.

Kyla Callahan of North Lincoln finished 2nd among 60 golfers at the NCHSAA western regional this week at Glen Oaks Country Club.  She'll be playing in the NCHSAA state championship tournament Monday & Tuesday at Foxfire Resort near Pinehurst.

Lincolnton made it closer than some expected but still lost to the unbeaten Maiden Blue Devils 27-7.  West Lincoln had a closer than expected game but won at East Rutherford 16-14.  East Lincoln and North Lincoln both blew out Iredell County opponents.  Here are the scores and schedule for next week.

Volleyball State Playoffs
The NCHSAA released its volleyball playoff brackets Thursday afternoon.  Four Lincoln County teams will be involved: Lincoln Charter, West Lincoln, East Lincoln & North Lincoln.  Maiden, Bandys, Foard, Hickory & St. Stephens from Catawba County made the playoffs; from Gaston County, Cherryville, Highland Tech, East Gaston, South Point, Mtn. Island Charter and Forestview; and from Cleveland County, Kings Mtn. and Crest.

The Lincolnton soccer team got its 14th win of the season Wednesday downing East Burke 3-0.  The win was the third this week.

CVAC Tournament Championship Belongs to Bandys
One might say the third time was the charm: the Bandys Trojans won the Datawba Valley Conference Volleyball championship with a close victory over Maiden Wednesday evening.  The conference also announced its All-Conference and Coach & Player of the Year awards.

The West Lincoln Girls Golf team won the state 2A title last Spring.  This year, girls golf got moved back to the first part of the school year.  The Rebels may have lost a couple of key players to graduation, but they've enjoyed a successful season.

West Lincoln won the regular season championship of the Catawba Valley Conference and this week added to it a conference tournament title.  Coach Ken Hilderbran was named the Coach of the Year.

After losing their first four games of the season, the Lincolnton Wolves are now 3-4 after winning their third straight Friday night.  East Lincoln, North Lincoln and West Lincoln also won Friday night.  Cherryville won its game and the Maiden Blue Devils won easily and are now 7-0.

Three Lincoln County teams posted wins Friday night.  Lincolnton won its 2nd game of the season 27-7 over Bandys.  North Lincoln blew out North Iredell 50-0.  East Lincoln topped West Iredell 35-0.  West Lincoln lost a close one to Bunker Hill 15-7.  Maiden won its game Saturday over West Caldwell 49-6, to remain unbeaten.

Hoyle Notches First B.A.S.S. Win
Cody Hoyle from Ruherfordton won the Basspro.com Bassmaster Southern Open on Lake Norman Saturday.  He had taken the lead on Friday.  Cole Huskins of Gastonia finished third, and  Shane Lineberger of Lincolnton won the $750 Phoenix Boats Big Bass award.

The Lincolnton Wolves soccer team beat Bandys and East Lincoln whipped Statesville Monday afternoon as the Wolves and Mustangs held onto the top spots in their conferences.  East Lincoln is now 3-0 in the Western Foothills 3A Conference. Lincolnton is 3-0 in the Catawba Valley 2A Conference.

West Lincoln is now 4-0 after an overtime win over Bandys.  East had to play without Tyler Mizzell, but a freshman QB played well, and they came close to pulling it out with a field goal before losing to Hickory.  North Lincoln lost at Statesville, and Lincolnton played well on defense but lost to unbeaten Bunker Hill.  Here are the scores.

The Lincolnton Middle School Wildcats hosted East Rutherford Middle School on Thursday, Sept. 9 at Von Ray Harris Stadium.  The Wildcats took home the win with a final score of LMS 20 ERMS 8.

High School Football
West Lincoln held on for a 21-19 win at Ashbrook to advance to 3-0.  Shelby lost, but after trailing 44-14, they cut the lead to 44-37 before falling to South Pointe 51-37. The Bunker Hill Bears are 3-0 after beating North Iredell 41-0.  Maiden had to go to overtime to beat Christ School 27-21 and are also 3-0.
