To say Shelby's Golden Lions have been here before would be the obvious.  A few players on this year's team may have been a part of the team in 2016--but the school's football teams have made 13 NCHSAA championship game appearances, and they've won nine NCHSAA state championships.

Coach of the Year is Nick Bazzle of North Lincoln. Ethan Howard of Bandys was named the Offensive Player of the Year. The Defensive Player of the Year is Travali Price of North Lincoln. Dylan Abernethy of Maiden is the Specialist of the Year.

The season came to an end for all the teams from Lincoln, Gaston, Catawba and Cleveland counties Friday night except for two: Shelby plays at Hibriten in the 2AA playoffs next Friday and Kings Mountain travels to Charlotte Catholic in the 3A playoffs.

The Men’s All-Conference Team for soccer in the South Fork Athletic Conference was recently released.  Newton-Conover had five players named All-Conference, East Lincoln and Bandys with four each, Lincolnton had three, North Lincoln with two, and Maiden and West Lincoln with one each.

A local 10-year-old is making sports history. He is Tre Vella, and he is the youngest eskrimador in history to pass the sixth level and completion of the art in balintawak arnis. Eskrima––or balintawak arnis––is an indigenous sport and stick-fighting martial art of the Philippines.

The annual Lincolnton Rotary Club 5k and 1-Mile Fun Run results are in for the event that coincides with the Apple Festival in Lincolnton. This was the 32nd annual run with racers of all ages participating on Saturday, October 27.

LHS Team Collects Money For Hurricane Florence Relief
Members of the Lincolnton High School basketball team collected money for the American Red Cross at a recent football game to support Hurricane Florence relief efforts. The team collected from the fans during the September 21 game against Newton-Conover and was presented to the Red Cross prior to Lincolnton High School’s Homecoming game October 12.

Serenity Tattiyanny Boulany, daughter of Johnny Boulany and Jennivieve Phravisay, was crowned the 2018 Homecoming Queen during halftime festivities at the October 12 football game against North Lincoln.
