Shelby 35, North Lincoln 7

The Knights' best season in years came to an end Friday as they lost to Shelby. North Lincoln finishes the season 10-4.

It was all Shelby from the start to the finish in the Golden Lions victory over the Knights. Even when Sam Brady appeared to intercepted a pass and returned it for what would have been a touchdown late in the third period, a roughing the passer penalty gave the ball back to Shelby deep in North Lincoln territory. Already leading 28-0, they scored again to make it 35-0.

After a long return of the kickoff by Jake Soorus, Landon Beard scored on a two-yard run to make it 35-7. Next week, Shelby plays at Hibriten.

Hibriten 34, Bandys 15

Hibriten rested its star running back McKinley "Gee" Witherspoon for the entire first quarter. A fumble on a handoff from Lake Hojnacki to Ethan Howard early in the second period gave Hibriten the ball at the Trojans 39-yard line. Two plays later Witherspoon ran 20 yards for a touchdown. The extra point try was no good.

In the second period after a pass was dropped on a 4th & 7 play turning the ball over to the Panthers, the Trojans got it back on a fumble near midfield. On a 4th and one at the Hibriten 39, Howard ran five yards for a first down. Hard running by Howard and Elijah Clarke got the Trojans to the Hibriten 7-yard line, but a fumble by Howard gave it back to Hibriten.

Quarterback Jaylen Scott then faked a handoff and threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to freshman Marcus Jones. Witherspoon ran for the two-point conversion and it was 14-0 with time running out in the first half.

Hibriten took the second half kickoff and scored on a long drive. Scott ran four yards for the touchdown. The extra point kick made it 21-0.

Elijah Clarke then returned the ensuing kickoff 61 yards to the Hibriten 30. Runs by Howard and Hojnacki got the ball to the Panthers 20. They got to the 10-yard line, but Howard fumbled again. On the next play, Witherspoon went 85 yards for another Panthers TD. The kick was no good and the score was 27-0.

Hojnacki finally got the Trojans on the board midway through the 3rd quarter. Witherspoon ran for another TD early in the final period and with the EP kick, it was 34-7.

Howard scored a TD with 3:10 left in the game. Hunter Jones ran for the two-point conversion to make it 34-15.

Bandys lost three fumbles and gave up two interceptions and Hibriten took advantage.  The Panthers, who haven't lost a game since the 2016 playoffs, will host Shelby next Friday.  Bandys, the champs of the South Fork Conference, finishes the season wtih a 12-2 record.

Charlotte Catholic 28,  Hunter Huss 7

Hunter Huss lost for the first time this season Friday night as the Charlotte Catholic Cougars advanced in the 3A playoffs.  Charlotte Catholic will host Kings Mountain next Friday.

Kings Mountain 49,  Northwest Cabarrus 28

The Mountaineers handed the Trojans their first loss of the season.  From the beginning, it was a one-sided affair.  Mounties QB Kaylon Wade scored on a one-yard run just three minutes into the game and with Austin Browning's EP kick, it was 7-0.  Another first quarter one-yard plunge by Mack made it 14-0 at the end of the first period.  Then running back Ricaylen Mack ran 28 yards early in the second quarter to make it 21-0.  Wade scored again halfway thru the second period and again with about a minute left in the first half and the Mountaineers were up 35-0.  With the help of some penalties, Central Cabarrus got on the board just before halftime cutting the lead to 35-7.  Mack's 22-yard run late in the third made it 42-7 after Browing's kick for the EP.  Central Cabarrus got a couple of TDs late in the third to make the score 42-20 going into the final period, but Wade ran 22 yards for his fifth touchdown of the night, and even though the Trojans scored once more very late in the game and succeeded on a two-point conversion, they were outclassed by the Mounties, who will play at Charlotte Catholic next Friday for the Western 3A title.  A win there will send them to the state championship game.

Robbinsville 32, Thomas Jefferson Academy 13

The Gryphons suffered their first loss of the season falling to Robbinsville.
