Cardinals Post 455 Baseball Sign-Ups, Sunday, March 31 --- Lincoln County Post 455 American Legion Cardinals Baseball will hold sign-ups on Sunday, March 31 for the 2019 season for players born in 2000 or later. Sign-ups will be held at four sites Sunday afternoon in the student parking lot at each location: Lincoln Charter Denver Campus (1:30-2); North Lincoln High School (2:30-3); Lincolnton High School (3:30-4); and East Lincoln High School (4:30-5).

Denver Nuggets Travel Boys’ Basketball Tryouts April 1, 3 --- The Denver Nuggets Travel Boys’ Basketball Teams will be holding tryouts for the following teams:  7th-11th Grade Boys Monday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 3 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the competition gym at East Lincoln High School (6471 Hwy 73 Denver, NC 28037). Jonathan Brookins Scholarship Golf Tournament, Friday, April 5 --- The 20th Jonathan Brookins Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, April 5 from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Lincoln Country Club, 2052 Country Club Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092. Come and have a great time as we strive to keep the memory of Jonathan alive while promoting financial support for scholarships. Over the last 19 years we have provided over $100,000 in scholarships for Lincoln County high school seniors who played baseball. LRU Fourth Annual 5k, Saturday, April 6 --- Lenoir-Rhyne University and the City of Hickory are proud to present the Fourth Annual LRU 5K, Saturday, April 6, at 8:30 a.m. The 5K is intended for community members of all ages and features prizes for top-finishers, refreshments, musical entertainment, and offerings from local business vendors. Participants are welcome to run or walk the course at their own pace. Early registration is open through noon Tuesday, March 26 and includes a T-shirt with the event’s vintage LR logo. Additional T-shirts will be for sale at the event. Event day registration will be held between 7:15 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. Please visit to register. AKP Gamer Challenge, Saturday, April 13 --- The First Annual AKP Gamer Challenge to benefit the Addison Kent Parrish Gamer Scholarship Fund will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. at East Lincoln High School, 6471 NC-73, Denver, NC 28037. Come join us for a day of baseball fun and games. Hit, Throw, Run Competition, $10 for each event – Free T-Shirt with all 3; Hit: 5 swings (longest hit), Throw: (hit target from centerfield), Run: (Timed event around the bases). Age Groups: 6 and under, 7-9, 10-12, 13-16, 16 and up. An Alumni Game will follow the afternoon events at 7 p.m. All participants with a shirt will get in free. Donations will be accepted at the gate for the public. Prizes to raffled off during the Alumni Game include a Spinners Season Ticket Package, a Cruise, a Yeti Cooler and More! RockyFest Trail Race, Saturday, April 13 --- Area runners are invited to participate in the 7th Annual RockyFest Trail Race on Saturday, April 13 at 8 a.m. at the Rocky Face Park Multipurpose Building. There will be three race distances, including a 4.5-mile, 9-mile, and 13.5-mile event. The race is FREE to Alexander County residents and county employees (active or retired), and ALL emergency services personnel, military, and teachers. Early registration for either race is only $25 if postmarked by April 1, with an additional $10 fee after that date, including race day. T-shirts are not included in the registration fee, so please include $10 more if you want a race t-shirt. T-shirts are guaranteed to those who register by April 1. Online registration is available at until April 11 at 12 p.m. All proceeds from the race will go to Rocky Face Park. Special awards will go to the top three (3) overall males and females in each race. Masters awards will be presented to the first male and female (age 40+) in each race. Easter Seals Charity Golf Tournament, Monday, April 29 (Register By April 12) --- Easterseals UCP Lithia Inn Group Home will host its Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament on April 29 at the Lincoln Country Club in Lincolnton. The tournament is a four-person captain’s choice format that kicks off at 12:30 p.m. The $60 ticket covers lunch, greens fees, range balls and cart fees. A silent auction and awards reception will follow the tournament. Sponsorship opportunities and golfer entry spots are now available! Brian Greer Benefit Cornhole Tournament, Saturday, May 4 --- A Cornhole Tournament to benefit Brian Greer, co-owner of City Lunch, who was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer will be held on Saturday, May 4 at Quillies, 173 Vandiver Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with the bags flying at 12 noon. There will be two $20 Blind Draws – bring your own bags. Hot dog plates (2 hot dogs, chips and drink), silent auction, raffle items, 50/50 and more!

Hickory Police Special Olympics Golf Tournament, Monday, May 13 --- Hickory Police Department is continuing their efforts to support Special Olympics North Carolina through fundraising and by bringing awareness to the organization’s goals of providing year-round sports training and athletic opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities through social inclusion. HPD will host the 22nd Annual Golf Tournament to benefit Special Olympics on May 13 at the Lake Hickory Country Club – Catawba Springs Course.  This event helps to raise the much-needed funding for the many programs offered by Special Olympics North Carolina in Catawba County such as basketball, bowling, equestrian, flag football, softball, soccer, swimming and tennis.
